Fansu Njie — Film Director
The Director
Fansu Njie is a Swedish film director whose work has reached audiences in over 50 countries. Born and raised in Sweden with roots in Gambia, his storytelling carries the duality of two worlds — the precise, understated cool of Scandinavia and the raw warmth of West African culture.
Before stepping behind the camera as a director, Fansu trained as a martial artist and worked as a cinematographer and editor — disciplines that gave him an instinctive understanding of movement, rhythm, and tension. That physical and technical intelligence is embedded in every frame he shoots.
Today he operates at the intersection of high-concept action and character-driven drama. His philosophy is simple: visual clarity, emotional truth, relentless forward motion.
He leads productions with calm authority — the kind that earns trust rather than demands it. When things break, he fixes them. When plans change, he adapts.
"Born between two cultures, shaped by two disciplines — martial arts and cinema. Both taught me the same thing: timing is everything."
— Fansu Njie
On Set
Directing on location — calling action
Fansu's approach to directing is collaborative by design. He believes the best performances come from an environment of trust — and the best images from a crew that understands the director's vision clearly enough to exceed it.
Over two decades on set, he has refined a working style that is precise without being rigid, demanding without being difficult.
His background as a martial artist and cinematographer means he understands movement at an instinctive level — both in front of the lens and behind it.
2021 — The Breakthrough
When Last Man Down landed on Netflix and Amazon Prime in 2021, it didn't just perform — it charted. The film cracked the Top 10 across multiple countries and platforms simultaneously, proving that Scandinavian action could compete with Hollywood on a global stage.
For Fansu, watching the film climb the charts in real time was a surreal confirmation of what he had always believed was possible: that a film made in Sweden, with a Swedish crew, could reach audiences everywhere — and hold its own against any competition.

His second feature continued to expand his international reach — charting at #1 on SF Anytime in Scandinavia and #2 on HBO in France, before securing a US cinema release through AMC in 2025.
Starring Daniel Stisen, Peter Stormare and Eric Roberts, the film marked a significant step forward in scale and ambition — attracting international talent to a distinctly Scandinavian story.
Shot across multiple locations with a crew operating at the highest level, Stand Your Ground demonstrated Fansu's ability to deliver cinematic action within the precision of a tightly controlled production.

Vision
What sets Fansu's work apart is not just the action — it's the grounding. His films are anchored in psychological realism, populated by characters who feel lived-in rather than constructed. The action sequences hit harder because the audience has been given a reason to care.
Outside of film, Fansu is also the author of Senja Chronicles — a published novel with screen potential, proving that his storytelling instinct extends well beyond the frame.

The Team
Cast & crew — Last Man Down production
Great films are built by great teams. Fansu leads his crews with the same discipline he brings to storytelling — clear intention, high standards, and genuine respect for every department. Productions under his direction are known for being well-prepared, fast-moving, and creatively open.
"Giving up is never an option. Not in martial arts, not on set, not in life. That discipline is the foundation everything else is built on."
— Fansu Njie
